Her story
A small life, lived well, looking for a new window.
Whiskey was adopted in 2023 by an older woman named Greta, who lived alone in a craftsman bungalow in West Asheville. They had a quiet life together — Greta read, Whiskey watched the robins from the windowsill, and they both liked the same kind of morning: slow, soft, no loud noises.
Last April, Greta fell in her kitchen and didn't get up. The neighbors heard Whiskey meowing through the screen door and called someone. By the time the ambulance came, Whiskey had been meowing for nearly an hour.
Greta is in a care home now. She can't say "Whiskey" anymore, but she does say "the brown one" when her daughter visits, and points to the window.
